Has anyone purchased Windows (or other brand name software) from one of these online discounters, and not regretted it? I'm cheap, but I always remember my Dad saying, "if it sounds to good to be true, it is"!
Has anyone found a discount vendor they are happy with?

That depends what you mean by "discounters". Anyone that undersells Newegg and ZipZoomFly deserves your suspicion. Their prices are as low as they can be.

You can try Ebay, but be sure that they guarantee that the original hologram CD is uncluded.

Bill,
I've only purchased software one time off of EBay. It was Norton SystemWorks. I got the original discs, but no box or manual. But at $23 per, I was happy. I see several items on EBay now.

Bill,
Thanks for the suggestion to check ZipZoomFly. I had never heard of them before. NewEgg gets a lot of my business, but they seem to be out of XP Pro (32 bit). ZipZoomFly has it for $139.99 Good deal! :p

WinXP Home for $50 - no rebates 3-17/18.

That's about as cheap as I've seen it from a legitimate source. Making room for Vista, I suppose.
