Is it possible to use 2x 56k Modems with 2x phone lines? If it is, will this boost speed or be totally pointless?

Thanks

it was possible to do it with diamond modems (long long time ago), but it's better to just get dsl.

it is still possible

problem is.. you will need 2 ISP accounts

for the price of 2 56k modem + 2 phone lines / per month + 2 ISP / per month = DSL cheaper solution :t

i was doing that before there was such thing as Cable / DSL about 10+ years ago :p

**** those were the good times

just the transition from BBS into WWW

Yeah I woulda got DSL or CABLE years ago... had it been availible in my area. I live virtually in the middle of no where, i've called every service provider in my area, checked every site for companies and nothing is availible. I would go with satalite but i hear that it doesnt work half of the day sometimes and during storms your screwed. Any other suggestions?

Thanks!

hmm...
then i guess there's no better solution other than Dual 56k, which is quite decent speed for web browsing, even for RTS games (WarCraft 3, etc.), but not good enough for Games like Half Life 2 or FarCry

yeah if i were you i'll try to find those Wireless services that are NOT satellite based.
like those FM wireless (forgot the actual name), the regular wireless like in Philly, and other services alike.

but until those becomes available... yup dual 56k is your best option right now
56k x2 = 128 down and 33x2 = 66 up

average 56k connection is actually around 48k not bad still around 96k down and 66 up

the 33 is usually constant, that is the original modem speed before 56k, so your 66 upload is pretty much granted.

get the Bell / ATT to get you 2 phone lines, and setup another account in your ISP
