coolers and cooling

hey guys:)
quick question fur yas........
can anyone recommend a good cooler for an AMD Athlon Xp 2gb+ cpu?
currentley use Qtec AMD Overclocker Enhanced(modied with extra fan cable tied on top). i'm trying to get cpu temp down....feel its runnin hot @50 deg c at idle. checked thermal contact (cleaned and fresh paste added).

mobo=Giggabyte GA 7vt600p-rz
AMD Athlon XP 2gb+
1gb ram
maxtor 80gb(133 ide)
maxtor 40gb(133 ide)
lg dvd ram
lg cdrw
good ol floppy
psu=Qtec twin fan 450w
80mm front case fan
90mm rear case fan

all thoughts /solutions welcome

many oc'rs will tell you that the Thermaltake Big Typhoon http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.asp?DEPA=0&type=&description=big+typhoon&Submit=ENE&Ntk=all&N=0&minPrice=&maxPrice=&Go.x=0&Go.y=0 will do a better job, but the results vs noise is subjective.

When you redid the thermalpaste, did you use Artic Silver 5 ? http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.asp?DEPA=0&type=&description=artic+silver+5&Submit=ENE&Ntk=all&N=0&minPrice=&maxPrice=&Go.x=0&Go.y=0 and apply it per their specs? You only need a very small rice-grain sized dot after cleaning the surfaces thoroughly with recommended cleaners. I ask because even the stock heatsink should be able to keep you in the 30's at idle.

Go with the Thermaltake Big Typhoon. Got it on my X2 3800, oc'd to 2.4 to 2.5 depending. Cool (average 38 to 40c under full load) and VERY quiet.

the paste i used is Unick...bought when i replaced my original athlon xp (the green one) and put a OEM xp of the same speed (2000+). the Unick paste is silicone heat transfer paste.......is this type better for slower or older cpus that dont run as fast?

instead of spending upwards of $80 on high end coolers, why not try TEC cooling it. All you need is a good power supply, a good heat sink, some thermal grease, and a cheap TEC probably between 60 and 100 W. all this together on ebay and circuit city didnt cost me more than $30 and my CPU has never gone above ambient.

TEC...ok if you got the money for a new system.. reliability is not very good cause when it goes you got no warning and you got a smoked CPU. Also condensation problems. I tried it a while ago. Too much hassle for what it could do. And it's not that easy, need a decent heatsink anyway, spacers, thermal pads, etc. Went back to air. And my Thermaltake Big Typhoon cost 24$.

time to give you an up-date.
since i last posted i have fitted an Aerocool Gold Tower GT 1000 cooler and
changed my psu from 450w to 650w and as i write this post my cpu is purrring at a luverly 35deg C.
