Board details:

Gigabyte 7IX Serial number 9942113737
P test 69
FQC N16
ICT 6977
Lot 809088a

and

OEM AMD Athlon 500
(K7500MTR51B
219941118374)
With K7 Coolermaster Fan

Video: Elsa Pro III
(Riva TNT2 Pro based graphics card)

Problem:
When booting the machine, long beeps are heard with approxiamately 4 second intervals. The system has been tested with three different power supplies (230W, 235W and 300W) which all work fine in other machines. It has also been tested with a two video cards which also work in other systems. The screen remains blank and although devices such as the hard disk and fan spin up, nothing more happens. The CPU also gets slightly warm but never very hot. The beeping continues until power down which works via the ATX power switch. Are there any known issues with the board/CPU combination? I am unable to test the CPU and board since I do not have compatible replacement components. Any help is much appreciated.

Rasika.

I just read something the other day about someone having problems with memory compatibility in their Athlon motherboard - it sounded very much like your symptoms.

Ram Compatability? Possibly... I'm using standard 64MB PC100 dimm that appears to work fine at 100mhz in my other machines.Do you remember where you read such info?

hey Buddy,

I could not find/remember where I read about the memory problem, it's not the exact same problem or motherboard, but I found this interesting post in Sysopt's overclocking forum:
http://www.sysopt.com/forum/Forum3/HTML/003266.html

Here is a quote from it: At the dos prompt I typed Setup and everything went smooth until it started detecting hardware right after rebooting from the file copying. BSOD. I tried everything I could imagine to get it to work. I found out Sunday mourning that some PC100 ram won’t work with the K7M.

How much is 700 UK pounds in US dollars these
days? But then if the machine isn't working,
it's the frustration level that keeps getting higher. Hope all goes well and you get thru to complete success /forum/biggrin.gif

Good Luck,
