Hey all I recently installed Win XP Pro over XP Home on my Gateway Pentium 3 ghz pentium, 2 gigs of ram.

Anyways I am trying to remove Nostromo software and I can't find it in add/remove programs in fact half of the programs are blacked out towards the bottom including all the latest windows updates...

I scroll down and all I see is black...

Did I somehow set this to hide programs??? I have all the latest XP updates.

Any ideas??? :confused:

Try rebooting a few times.

Any upgrade is risky. The upgrade from Home to Pro fails about 50% of the time. It's ironic because it's an unnecessary upgrade. Home is perfectly adequate.

Maybe I can do a reinstall/repair from the disk?

I would hate to reformat everything.

Yes - try a repair. If you have to reinstall, you do not have to format. Just reinstall and your old data will still be there. You will have to reinstall all programs though.

All programs are showing now in Add or Remove Programs!

Did some research and found a solution from Microsoft WIN XP Inside Out Second Edtion book.

I created a restore point first and also backed up the registry.

Then went to HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Management\ARPcache.

I deleted the ARPcache folder and relaunched Add or Remove Programs
and it rebuilt the keys and now I see ALL of them! :D
