I'm putting together a new PC with an ABIT BE6 motherboard Intel 500MHz/512/100 128MB PC100 SDRAM 3DFX VooDoo3500 and I'm having trouble. I can get into the BIOS setup screen for about 10-15 seconds and then the whole system freezes. I have gotten the CPU speed set in the BIOS. Memory checks out at 131072 OK. I have gotten a glimpse of a windows splash screen but never gets any farther. What is the most likely culprit?? I have taken all cards etc out except video and have disconnected all but FDD and still happens….. HELP!

Might be that you got a defective BIOS - I'd definitely contact ABIT for a little trouble shooting before either returning the board & processor or getting them to send you a new BIOS.

Any possibility you might have zapped the board on install w/ static charge, or possibly that the board isn't mounted correctly ( I.E. underside of board touching metal case frame )

The vid card seems to be OK. I'd go for a replacement BE6.

Thanks for the assistance. Finally got thru to some Tech assistance at ABIT. After some playing around we set the board to a slower setting PII333/66 and it booted with no problems. He told me it pointed to a memory module that could not keep up with the 100MHz clock rate. I then talked to the supplier and he agread that it sounded like it was either a bad module or just couldn't keep up. Thanks for all your help!! /forum/biggrin.gif OK to close
