Well, I'm using an ATA-66 disk from IBM on an ATA-33 motherboard. I had to find a special tool at IBM's site to disable the ATA-66 though. No problems at all so far.

I have a WD ata-66, no problems using it at 33 before I got the promise 66 card.
I read somewhere that most drives are shipped with 66 disabled for ata 33 use, but I did not have to do anything to my WD after I installed the promise 66 card.
Sandra said it did a burst transfer of about 62...

I've got a Maxtor UDMA66. I hooked it up & did nothing special to a mobo that only supports UDMA33. not familiar with the idea of the drives shipping with 66 disabled.

Yes, and very well I might add. I have a maxtor 7200 rpm ata66 running on a tyan s1590s m.b. and it scores off the chart on sisandra soft. I also am using and 80 wire ata66 ide cable, it helped on performance also. One hint, don't but the hot rod 66 card, it is a waste of money. I have had three of the paperweights. They offer faster data transfer, but much slower access times. (5ms vs. 50ms) It is noticeably slower....
