Windows 98 SE
Norton System Works (prior to version 2000)

If you have the above software combination, you 'could' get the following error:

"EXPLORER caused an invalid page fault in
module KERNEL32.DLL at..."

I had this nagging message about 80% of all boots and sometimes when going into Internet Explorer 5.0

I found two commands that fixed this problem.
FDISK and FORMAT C: /s
Upon reinstall all went smoothly with no errors, ...until I reinstalled Norton System Works (BINGO)the same error message popped up.
My initial web searches had come up with various solutions from Microsoft.com such as delete all .pwl files etc. (none of the MS solutions worked)

After associating this error to a Symantec product, I found that there is a fix for this error from Symantec.
(Replacing APITRAP.DLL)
Here is the url for the fix, just in case anyone else is getting the same error message.
http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/ftp/cleansweep/cleansweep_v4.html

Bummer to have to go through the Format thing to find this out, but then again, it is great having such a clean registry!

May your computing hours be "Error free"

You are most welcome, I am just sooooo relieved that it's not some sort of hardware problem! I just wanted to create a post so that someone can do a search for that particular error. I'm sure there must be others out there using Win98 and Norton. Knock on wood, but the combination of the re-installs and the new .dll have solved all problems and my machine is runnin' better than ever!!!
Ain't life sweet...
