The PC133 will only run at 100mhz. Same goes for PC100 on a system that runs at 66mhz FSB. SGW 11-17-1999, 12:11 AM I've recently picked up a PC-100 64MB Dimm for a third computer I'm trying to put together. My other two have a 128MB PC-100 Dimm. Can I use the 64MB Dimm with a 128MB Dimm? This may seem like a mega-simple question, but I'm taking no chances without answers. Thanks in advance! Chainsaw 11-17-1999, 12:19 AM I don't know the answer for sure, but I bet it makes a difference what Motherboard you are adding it to, if you could supply some basic info about the system, I'm sure someone will be anxious to answer that. Good luck in all, chainsaw scotter 11-17-1999, 12:30 AM yes with pc-100 memery you can use any combo and it should work unless you have soom realy strange mobo /forum/smile.gifas long as all the chips aare pc-100 you can even mix pc-133 with pc-100 /forum/smile.gif [This message has been edited by scotter (edited 11-16-1999).] Ygor 11-17-1999, 12:37 AM As long as you're sure they are dimms, not simms, mix all you want. SGW 11-17-1999, 12:47 AM Excellent! Thank you very much. digital_rat 11-18-1999, 10:29 AM how about the converse?? running pc-66 memory on a system using 100 mhz fsb??? drdeath 11-18-1999, 10:54 AM you might be able to run the pc-66 ram at 100 fsb, but theres no guarantee. some chips will do it, some wont. its the same when we run pc-100 ram at, say, 124 fsb - some of the chips will, some wont.... felix726 11-18-1999, 05:19 PM A good gauge of whether or not you can run your memory at faster speeds than it's meant to be is whether it's 7ns, 8ns, or 10ns. Chances are that if you pic up some generic PC100 that it's going to be 10ns and not likely to go much higher than 100mhz (it might notsupposed to be going even that fast) however if you stick with quality chips from good manufactuers like Micron or Corsair your probably getting 7ns or 8ns and can push the chip to 133mhz and sometimes faster. /forum/smile.gif Pantion 11-19-1999, 12:02 AM Well you can use PC-66 on a computer running at 100MHz FSB. It all depends on the quality of the ram. If its cheap and from a not to known company, well try it and if works just keep an eye on it... you can loose data if you don't set the BIOS correctly to refresh it as it needs to be. The same goes for using PC-100 on a computer that is running at 133MHz FSB. SysOpt.com
