I went to check a PC which was freezing and as suspected the CPU fan was not working. So I got a replacement - same model etc. Immediately after changing the fan the board began to beep. Memory is working, Video working,. Actually the board starts fine sometimes and then it doesn't. Or it will start normally and then when I restart it it doesn't. When I connect the hard drive it doesn't start. I checked the power supply using two testers. All leads are reading correct voltage.

Wonder if it is a CPU but nto used to boards giving long beep when it is CPU . Also after it starts into Bios normally and I restart it it stays blank for about 30 seconds and then begins to beep. It sounds like ta-taa, pause repeat.

Check BIOS codes:

Try removing all power (Powercord and battery) then hit your power button on front a couple of time to discharge the PSU capacitors then reset the CMOS jumper for at least a minute, put the battery and cord back in, make sure your jumper is back to the run position. and try the computer again. This is a "Clean" CMOS reset. and what my unscientific mind thinks is going on is you BIOS has latched onto a Configuration it thinks is the "Norm" (Even though you replace a fan with like equipment .... The old fan was bad and not to specs, the new fan is to specs, so the BIOS might see them as different....just my guess)

Anyway a clean CMOS reset will unlatch this memory and the BIOS will see what is there currently and maybe work.

This has worked for me Swapping RAM or a CPU. I have never had a fan problem.

I am not real optimistic this will work in your situation, but it is fairly simple and cheap to try and like I say its been helpful in some hardware swaps.

Something to try while you are pulling out the rest of your hair. :D
