1. Copy Spinpoint 80GB drive (OLD PC, Athlon XP system) to a WD Raptor (OLD PC, Athlon XP system) via Acronis True Image

2.) Install WD Raptor (NEW PC, A64 system)

3.) Erase Spinpoint contents

4.) Install Spinpoint (NEW PC, A64 system)

5.) Use Spinpoint drive as backup redundancy. :)

That all feasible with say driver controllers, going from IDE to SATA? Plug and play basically?

Have you considered using the file and settings transfer wizard in xp and then a clean install?

1. Copy Spinpoint 80GB drive (OLD PC, Athlon XP system) to a WD Raptor (OLD PC, Athlon XP system) via Acronis True Image.

2. Erase Spinpoint contents.

3. Boot to raptor (old pc). Transfer files and settings onto spinpoint.

4. Transfer both drives to new pc.

5. Clean install of windows onto raptor.

6. Restore files and settings transfer wizard.

7. Use Spinpoint drive as backup redundancy.

Two more steps but I bet it would run a lot smoother.

If the motherboard chipset is a different brand, forget it.

If you choose to try, be sure to load the SATA controller drivers before the transfer.
