when i dial-up now, it will not let me save the passwd. also after i click connect, windows asks for a password to logon, as it asks when i boot up as well. How do i get rid of the logon screens and get dial-up to save my password

First... if its Win95 or Win95a there is a patch for the Dial-up password.

For Win95 OSR 2.x and Win98 when it asks you for a password at logon just don't write any leave it blank. When it asks you to rewrite the password again just hit enter.

Also you can use this file autolog.inf its located on Win98 CD at: \tools\mtsutil just right-click on it and click on install.

For the dial-up password I don't rember... its been a while and didn't give it too much important so wait 'till someone else completes your question... sorry about that :P

I had exactly the same problem recently. Use your WIN98 cd and run the autolog.inf file. You'll have to right click on the file then select install. This will now reinstall the initial windows logon prompt. If you want to automate things a bit, I'd enter a logon name and password, then Reboot.

Now, go to Tweakui in Control Panel and select the Network tab. Here you will enter your logon name and password. Now when windows starts the logon box will show briefly but the logon name and password will be automatically entered.

I think after these two steps you should now be able to save your dial up password as you like. I use a utility called Dunce to automate things a little further. Try this link www.vecdev.com/dunce.html. (http://www.vecdev.com/dunce.html.)

When you enter a username, enter a simple "period" as in ...
Leave the password blank.
If you have already set a Windows password, go to control panel, passwords, enter the old and nothing in the new fields.
Make sure you have client for MS networks installed in Control Panel/Network.

What do you have as 'primary network logon' in Network settings? Try changing it to 'windows logon' or 'client for microsoft networks'. if it is already set to that then i don't know why it wont work /forum/smile.gif

When ever you can't save you password in a dial-in connection it means you have corrupt TCPIP in the network settings. This is indicated by the grayed out save password check box in the dial-in box. You will have to remove TCPIP, reboot, then reinstal TCPIP. But you will need the Win CD. If you dont have a CD make sure you have cab files on the hard drive. Then reboot again, then configure the tcpip properties. followed by another reboot. If you get prompts for file version conflict, use the OLDER files becoz the are still not corrupted

problem solved! it turns out that the file secur32.dll was not being found so i found it and told tcpip where to find it and everything is peachy again...dont know why the file was suddenly not being found though....
