Yea seen em all around for the last year or so. Called L3 over here. All have the gas V8, can't get the turbo diesel here. All of the rich Newport Beach soccer mom's got em. Freaking arm and a leg too, around $53K for the middling one. Decent looks, just want to see one out in the rough patches to see how it does. think it's more of a road poser than anything else.
I talked to the local rover dealer the other day, he thinks the Defender will go back on sale over here before the end of the year. I'll be in line for that for sure.
Gotta go plow the back forty. Baaaa... :D

We don't have them over here. Don't really know what the equivalent would be. Looks like a step between the Pathfinder and the Armada.
But it is a good looking truck, and Nissan is known for producing very good and tough vehicles, except for the Xterra, they have a big problem with the front differential blowing up. Not good when you are 40 miles from the nearest road.

Well they "Used" to be known for pretty well engineered cars too (Like the Infinity range) ....... But since Renault has bought em out ...... Or what ever Renault have done .......... I wouldn't bother ............ They are phasing out the Patrol here in favour of the Murano ......... "Which wouldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding" its got a V6 motor linked to a Renault CVT tranny ............... We tried usin' one to pull this mobile chipshop & it only just did it theys £30K worth O' bling I'm afraid...... :(
Yey another good comp goes down the tubes .............. Mind you Renault have bough out Citroen too ........ Prolly not mean a lot to you chaps....... But Citroen (Although French) really put some engineering in their vehicles ....... Like Active headlights in the early 70's...... & Hydro elastic suspension....... They did that up un till really recently ....... Twas brill stuff ..... A absolute PITA if ya didn't look after it ...... But now The Renault/Peugeot alliance is in full swing all the cars are begining to look as if they come from the same mould....... & a pretty carp mould it is too.
Jeebers I even saw a Jaguar S Type 2.0 D Estate (Station Wagon) Yesterday....... really synonymous wiv status that........... The guy who bought that needs taking out the back & shootin'

I know a guy, was a chiroprator, who had a jeep POS with a snorkle.
Got shots of him driving cross a shallow lake with him sitting on the roof with his bum in the water, steering with his feet coz the water level was so high.
The only part of the car above water you could see was the snorkle :)
I'll try to get him to send me some pics. Funny as!

Esso is the world’s no. 1 climate criminal. It has done more than any other company to stop the world from tackling climate change.
Esso admits that it has a ‘vested interest’ in stopping governments from taking action on climate change. For over a decade, it has attempted to sabotage international negotiations on the issue and block agreements which would reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
It’s thanks to corporations like Esso that the US ditched the Kyoto Protocol, the only international agreement to deal with climate change. With only five percent of the world’s population, the US is responsible for emitting 25 percent of the main greenhouse gas, carbon dioxide. Esso wants to keep it that way.
Esso even denies that climate change is caused by the burning of fossil fuels and has spent millions of dollars funding front organisations to reinforce its position.
To protect its own profits, Esso opposes the switch to clean energy. Despite being one of the world’s richest companies, Esso doesn’t invest a single dollar in renewable energy. In fact Esso would like to see a massive increase in fossil fuel use over the next 20 years - a scenario that would send climate change spiralling out of control.

Even if all the countries that were intended to be covered by the Kyoto Protocol fulfilled its requirements, the effect on greenhouse gases would be meaningless. The five percent cut in CO2 emissions, which Kyoto is supposed to achieve, would have a trivial effect on its level and on temperatures.
Worse than the triviality of the Kyoto objective, the developing countries-the sector with the rapidly growing emissions, particularly the population giants China and India-are exempt from Kyoto limits. Their emissions will soon swamp anything Kyoto could accomplish. All that Kyoto could accomplish is to take away a large chunk of the American standard of living.

2. Kyoto's Big Con
The Kyoto environmental protocol committed nations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. By this standard, the pact's biggest fans, the Europeans, are failing. And what about the United States, the global villain for withdrawing approval of the accord in 2001? It's doing very well, thank you, says the Wall Street Journal.
Consider the latest numbers from the European Environment Agency in Copenhagen:
o Most European countries have seen an increase in greenhouse-gas emissions since signing Kyoto with great fanfare in 1997.
o No fewer than 13 out of the 15 original European Union (EU) signatories are on track to miss their 2010 emissions targets -- by as much as 33 percentage points, in the case of Spain.
Or consider Denmark, home of the EU's environmental watchdog:
o Rather than reduce levels by 21 percent as the accord stipulates, Denmark has so far notched a 6.3 percent increase in emissions since 1990, the base year used in Kyoto.
o The likely gap between its Kyoto commitment and its emissions levels projected for 2010 is 25.2 percentage points.
Like I said "political football" and I'll add farce.

Senator John Kerry (D-MA) and Representative Henry Waxman (D-30th CA) have concluded that Dr. Paula Dobriansky and Dr. Harlan Watson, heads of the U.S. delegation to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change intentionally misrepresented the truth about U.S. emissions of greenhouse gases. Kerry and Waxman are demanding to know why they mischaracterized the data on greenhouse gas emissions to make it look as if U.S. emissions were falling when in fact, U.S. greenhouse gases are rising and reached an all time high in 2004.
Representatives from KyotoUSA experienced first hand the misrepresentations made by the U.S. delegation that are raised in the Kerry-Waxman letter. The KyotoUSA letter points out that the U.S. position on greenhouse gas reductions is irresponsible and is putting the worlds future at risk.

Old news, but then so is Kyoto (http://www.sepp.org/glwarm/majordeception.html)
Dr. S. Fred Singer, president of The Science & Environmental Policy Project (SEPP) and author of Hot Talk, Cold Science: Global Warming's Unfinished Debate, explained: "Scientists are understandably upset when they see $2 billion per year devoted to research on climate change, much it irrelevant and concerned only with imaginary consequences of a hypothetical warming -- while other fields of science are starved. They are also appalled and angry that an increasing fraction of this research money is diverted into "community workshops," thinly disguised brainwashing exercises to create public fears about climate catastrophes."
It's not about doing nothing, just the right thing. The science that Kyoto was founded on is pretty much a hoax, and now it's self perpetuating, huge arguments and bs all based around misrepresented lies; a flawed premise in the first place.

FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA, APRIL 21, 1998---More than 15,000 scientists, [8/4/98: now about 17,000] two-thirds with advanced academic degrees, have now signed a Petition against the climate accord concluded in Kyoto (Japan) in December 1997. The Petition (see text below) urges the US government to reject the Accord, which would force drastic cuts in energy use on the United States. This is in line with the Senate Resolution, approved by a 95-to-0 vote last July, which turns down any international agreement that damages the economy of the United States while exempting most of the world's nations, including such major emerging economic powers as China, India, and Brazil.

Larry Elliott, economics editor
Monday February 6, 2006
The Guardian
The attempt in Britain to have our cake and eat it will mean - almost inevitably - that the government goes ahead with its plan to build more nuclear power stations. The expertise of John Browne, the chief executive of BP, is interesting here, though. Browne says that building enough capacity to deliver seven gigawatts of energy could put a ceiling on emissions at around 500 ppm. That doesn't sound much, but one gigawatt (actually one gigaton) is the equivalent of 700 nuclear power stations. That's a heck of a lot of nukes, and by the time we've built them rising sea levels may mean they're a few feet under water. At the very best, it will mean that the lights stay on in the UK as darkness descends in the rest of the world (no it'll be glowing with nuclear waste)...
Governments are almost certainly wrong to believe that action on climate change means economic stagnation. On the contrary, it would probably lead to an unleashing of a new clean industrial revolution based on green technology. They are also wrong to believe that the Kyoto process - rather than a new, comprehensive global solution - is the way to cut carbon emissions in any meaningful way.

Kyoto was a global initiative. Bush should a grabbed it by the balls, jumped in the saddle cracked a few heads and given a lead. Hijack it if u like.
The commitments required of 'Major polluters' are onerus and unfair - so why not fight that corner instead of the great 2 finger salute.

Kyoto already had a life of it's own by the time Bush got there, and it was unfair, yes, but it also had an extreme anti US bias; very unrealistic.
Most of the adopters won't make their commitments, what a collassal waste.
We'll come up wiv something, hell we started the whole stink in the first place, prolly finish it first too, we'll be gettin around in non petrolem vehicles, and our factories too. We'll have no need for mid-east oil, we'll have plenty of our own for the rest of it. Prollem is gonna be the emerging huge countries, like I been saying.
