MtnSnow, or anyone that can help:
I already have win98 installed. Is there a way I can put LINUX on the same hardrive. I know that there is software I can buy that will let me do it, but seeing as I am broke, is there a way I can manually do it through sometype of media such as FDISK?
Once again, thanks for any help you may give.
Kenneth
you can use a utility called fips that is on most linux disks. It will allow you to resize your partitions. Be very careful though and read all the direction as it is easy to trash all your data.

Bdog is correct in suggesting FIPS. But I see that you are running Win98 Which means you are probably running FAT32 Which will not work effectively. (lilo..the linux bootloader should be on a fat16 partition. If you are formated fat16 then you are off to the races. (just make sure that Linux is below the 8 gig mark on the harddrive. and make sure you run a defrag and scandisk PRIOR to using FIPS and loading Linux. I would also suggest that you vist Linuxnewbie (http://www.linuxnewbie.org) as it is a great site that will answer MANY questions much better than ME /forum/biggrin.gif

I am not a linux expert by any means, but isn't lilo on the master boot record which isn't affected by fat32? Maybe I just lucked out but I had rh 6.0 and win98se with fat 32 on one hd. Also I was just at sams and they had mandrake 6.5 (which is basically redhat) for $24 and it included a special version of partition magic that will do just what you are wanting.

Yes Lilo does support fat32 But I have found that it is much more stable to have a Fat16 boot partition. (and you will have to have a FAT16 partition to boot from if you are wanting to TRIPLE boot, Win9x, NT and Linux. So I have found it's easier to start with a fat16 partition /forum/smile.gif
