Hi!
I've been using outlook express5. Now, I've got outlook 97. I can't for the life of me transfer (export) the addresses I have to the new outlook. I even try to manually enter the addresses in my "new" contact list. BUT, it tells me that I can't add any contacts. Thanks Billy G. For another way to tick me off!
Anyway, any help is greatly appreciated...
Mike P.
The address book is *.pab...all the email and folders are *.pst. The reason i bet you can't add contacts is becausae you don't have personal address book installed or not selecting it in the places you want to add it to. You can add it from services. When you go to add a new contact make sure you specify personal address book. Hope that helps.

In Outlook 97 open up the tools menu, services. Add the "Outlook Address book" service. That should allow you to use contacts as an address book. I also setup a "personal address book" because the "Outlook Address book" does not allow you to make distribution lists.

Thank you 800XL, that sure did the trick. Like I said, I really like outlook express 5, but I figured, since I have the full boat outlook, why not use it, at least for a while.
Thanks again...

I can't remember where or how, but I am pretty sure there is a way to export outlook express address books. It seems to me that they are stored in a .pab file in the same format as OL97 uses, so you could try searching your hard drive for *.pab and then doing an import in Outlook97 from what you find.
Actually, I just fired up OE and found you can export from the file menu. Export to a MS Exchange Personal Address book and then import into outlook using that or point the "Personal Address Book" service to that .pab file. That will get your old contacts from OE into OL97.

I've tried exporting my Outlook Express address book to Outlook, and it's not always possible, don't know why. BUT- the address book is normally saved as wab.exe
You can copy it manually to the correct location, they're in the same format. Also, you should be able to drag and drop entries from one address book to the other manually.
