Award BIOS (v4.5 I think), 2 Seagate 23GB SCSI drives, set to ID 0,1, 1 Adaptec 2940UW, 1 Adaptec 2940, SCSI CD & burner. HDDs are mounted in an external box and attached to 2940 card, CD/CDR are attached to 2940UW internally. Adaptec cards see all drives correctly, Win98 boot floppy will not allow FDISK, DRIVE NOT READY error message. I seem to remember something about SCSI boot drives and external devices, anyone have any ideas why 98 will not see the drives?

If those scsi drives are new or out of a none windows machine they are not configured yet. You will need to fdisk them and format them with the scsi card's utility. ( on adaptec cards it's usually "Ctrl+A" to access the utilitys. from there you will be able to configure the drives as well as which of the scsi drives will be bootable. (your bios must also be configured to allow the scsi drive to be bootable).

ps. If you are unable to access the drives once you have made sure they are connected properly (cabling, ID#, Termination, and Termination power) then I would say you may have defective drives and return them for RMA's
