CD ROM fades away.........

I have a creative Infra 48x speed rom. I boot my computer and it works fine, but after awhile it stops working. It says it "not connected".."unavailable"
I have put in a latest driver and reloaded windows 98 and checked cables.
I have also cleaned the laser lense..

Check your available system resources when it dies to see if you have any available resources - if you are below 60% available, check your task list to see what else is running out there that's eating up resources.

Also, is the drive SCSI or IDE? - on SCSI, check if you have two things with the same SCSI number - if it's IDE - check the device manager for conflicts.

Also, try a music CD with head-phones and see if it stops. - If it doesn't - might be something on the sound card.

Lastly - does the CD actually stop spinning, or does the program just stop functioning?
