hi all.

k, built a new computer, asus p5gd1 mobo, poped in 1gig ram, used a western didgital 40 gig hdd for the master(primary) hp cdr for secondary master.

got it all up and happening( after replcing psu, was shot right from the factory)

any way picked up a 200 gig sam sung sata drive. but I know nothing about them.

the computer knows its their but it doesent do any thing, and does not show in " my computer.

can some one tell me what I need to do to get it to work. as it stands, the sata drive is conected as the third ide slave( I just kinda pluged it into the most accessable slot) .

I thought about changing it to the #1 slot but figured I would get some advice first.

as mentioned I know nada about these new computers( not that I know much about older ones, but its all I got )

do I have to do something with the raid configureation(not that I have a clue as to what that is)

your insight is most apreciated, thanks in advance, ward.

Nice looking board. it appears to be native Sata onboard which means it would likeky take a fresh windows install if that is what you had in mind. If it is you should remove the IDE HDD and have the sata drive connected to the number 1 port.

I have been working with AMDs since well before SATA so while I am somewhat aware about there capabilities, I have ignored the Intel side. Sorry I can't be of more help, but someone will happen along soon.

tried windows disk management? Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Computer Management - Disk Management. See it there? If it's not showing up, and of course correctly connected, it could be a faulty drive.
Check your connections, try a fresh install with your ide drive disconnected as pandaz3 suggested.

Or a faster way to get there:
Right-click "My Computer", select "Manage" :t

Also, just maybe for kicks and giggles, try reinstalling your SATA Controller's drivers. If it's not showing up under disk management, it could be some conflict with the controller and Windows. Just my 2 1/2 cents.

The other drives will be a snap. Just add them and let Windows set them up.
