Popping noises on backup copies of music cd

The new music cd's that I have been copying seems to have popping noises like a record. Is it part of the copy protection or something wrong with my cd writer or unstable overclocked cpu?

I have used hi-val, memorex and imation cdr's

I would guess that you are using an IDE writer and perhaps using your PC while you burn. If you have a SCSI burner you should be able to multitask while burning but IDE drives dont like anything going on while they write to a CD.
