I don't know if this is common knowledge. I haven't heard it elsewhere, but I do live under a rock but... /forum/wink.gif
I was installing Off 2K Prem. upgrade and realized I had forgotten to reinstall Off 97 Prof on my computer after my motherboard crash where i wiped my hds in an attempt to fix it. Anyway, it prompts me to guide it to where the qualifying Mcrosoft program is (prev Office or Works). Since I didn't want to stop and install 97, I directed to the cd rom where the installation disk for Off 2K was and it counted itself as a qualifu=ying program! I talked with a couple of guys, some had heard of this and others had not, and they said it coud be done with most (at least MS) programs! What a find! Anyone want to save a couple hundred bucks!

yeah - i noticed that on mine, too. i was also able to do that win office 97 and 95 - you would think that they would fix that!! oh well - im not a complainer /forum/smile.gif
a lot of people don't even know that you can verify any of the software that way. They install the older versions and then upgrade. One guy that I know got a new hd, installed 3.1, 95 upgrade, then 98 upgrade. what a waste of time not to mention a jumbled up system.

I don't know about you but I got Office 2000 and Win98 for 5 bucks a pop. Its so much easier when your school offers lotsa microsoft products for $5 a piece.
what school offers them for $5 ? I get discounts at my school, but not anywhere near that good. Is there something that I am missing?
um EULA anyone?
Not sure if the "Microsoft stupidity" disclaimer is section four or five.
The complete/upgrade packages are also known to be the same CD, it just installs based on whether you put the complete package or upgrade key in. Of course, using another key from a product you do not own is illegal.

I don't think anyone has broken any EULAs by doing this as ling as they have the software. I actually bought the 97 and 2000 Offices but noticed this trick only when I forgot that I had not reinstalled my full version of 97 Prof. I see your point though. this could be abused and the EULA broken. BTW how much money does Microsoft take from us already?... /forum/smile.gif /forum/smile.gif

One of these days MS will fix that neat little trick.
I don't always have the previous SW on my computer, but I at least qualify for the upgrades.
BTW, it's sometimes cheaper to buy a qualifying product and the upgrade than to buy the full version.

Yes-
office upgrades var from 229 to 449 while te full versions are tipically 200 more. Works costs 50 and can be used as a qualifying product.

Call me a rock, but I don't think MS sees that as a trick. They not only know about it, but in some cases explain exactly how to do it.
And I want 10 legal of each at $5 a pop. /forum/smile.gif
