sounds like spyware. check your proxy and firewall settings.

Heck of a system you got there. Tell you what...I'll just send you my 4 year old PC, which Firefox works just fine on and has for some time. You send me that one for a trade, and I can handle fox not working...:)
Just kidding...nice rig.
I'd try updating extensions, if you have any, if no go, uninstall them one by one.
If still no go, uinstall fox completely, reboot, and reinstall.
Save the bookmarks.html file, so you don't lose your bookmarks....

I have done all of the above mentioned things. I also uninstalled the program, cleaned the reg, and reinstalled. All setting are the same as they have always been and nothing has changed. No spyware etc etc. Scanned for viruses as well.
This is just making me pull my hair out. But these things happen from time to time..As most people know, XP has a mind of it's own from time to time but I will continue to post if anything changes or of I solve the problem.
THANKS to all you have replied. :t

First , make sure your firewall's are not blocking Firefox.
There is a Firefox Safe Mode in your Start / All Programs , give that a try. If that doesn't help then try creating a new profile .
To create a new profile, see the Manage Profiles How-to (http://www.mozilla.org/support/firefox/profile#new) . Migrate your settings files (Bookmarks, Saved Passwords, etc) over one by one, checking each time to see if the problems resurface. If you do find a particular profile data file is causing a problem, file a bug and attach the file. - Firefox Support

If you unistall it, make sure you delete the folder in C:\Docs and settings\%Username%\Application data\Mozilla...
An uninstall and/or regclean might not get that folder...
