Don't have answer for you, Edge, but was wondering about that card. Does it really show any appreciable performance improvements? been toyiong with the idea of buying one or else a new motherboard.

Mmm. NT installed really fast. I'm still adding and updating hardware... the apps aren't in yet.

Stan's been using it for awhile now. He's sold on it. This system isn't mine but it looks like I'll be "Doing the Raid". /forum/wink.gif

Hi

The default stripe block size is 64Kb. I would not use a smaller size for normal desktop use.
Larger stripe size is best for streaming requirements.

There is a utility called Ultratune (installed in Control Panel). You can choose to optimise your system either for "Business/Games" or "Audio/ Video Editing". I am not sure what it does. Unfortunately, it is not available under NT (probably due to the NTFS file system)

I have set up 5 servers with a FastTrack66 card and I have always used the default stripe size (64Kb).

My latest "creation" is a PII 350 with 512Mb RAM and four IBM 34Gxp (34.2Gb) in RAID0/1 config (effective HD space is 68Gb).
For the moment, I am using it as a test server running SQL6.5 sp5a (with 15Gb db).
When I will be finished with it, I am thinking of using it as our data server for the office (as the one we have is running slowly but surely out of space...).

Unfortunately, once you have set up the stripe size, I don't think it is possible to change it to a larger/smaller size. I did not check or try but I think that would mean re-create and re-format the array.

I Hope I answered your questions.

**** I love that RAID card !!!!

May I ask a couple questions about the FastTrack66? I am wondering, what the best Stripe Block size would be for use with the following applications under NT:
AutoCad, graphics (Micrografx Designer and PhotoShop) and Office2000.
Would the Desktop setting of 8K be good or would you suggest the 64k blocks of the A/V setting?

The other question is whether or not this setting can be changed after the OS and Apps are installed.
