McAfee VirusScan freezes @ Win 98 logo

After I install, make the emergency boot disk, etc., when I say yes to re-boot, it re-boots but freezes at the Win 98 screen. I have to re-set and it still freezes. I uninstalled from safe-mode, & all's well (except my virus protection).

Tyan 371 w/via chipset/Award bios
128 Mg pc133
IBM dma 66 HDD

The Vscan worked fine in my old unit with the dma 33 HDD & AMD 350 processor/pc 100 ram. I tried it in my laptop & all's well there, also.

Could it be McAfee Virus Scan is incompatible with pc133 and/or dma 66 HD's ?

I have the same problem and was unable to resolve it.
I dont have pc133 or dma 66 HD's.
Soyo 5eh w/via chipset/Award bios.

chuckiechan, I installed McAfee virus scan in a PII-350 once, and it created all sorts of problems with windows 98. I also couldn't believe how many entries it made in the registry. I've installed Norton 4.0 and 6.0 (2000) without any problems. I've had problems with other McAfee products as well, some are good I'm sure, but after the experiences that I've had with the ones that caused problems, I've shyed away from them.

you are always better off to reboot your computer yourself and not let the programs do it for you.....when it asks if you want to reboot or restart...say no and do it yourself....you will have much less trouble this way

Hmmm, we have it on 2, one is a P2-350 which won't o/c, the other is an amdk6-3 400 which does o/c nicely. NP!
