Hmmm. From the sounds of it, you may have some bad RAM.
If you have Nuts & Bolts, you can test your Ram from your desktop.

I've got a Micron Millennia MME, Pentium 200 MMx w/64 MB of ram. When it first boots up, it takes about 45 secs to 1 min to get from the checking ram part to the windows start up. Also, windows 95(and most programs too) just run overly slow. My parents have a Micron Millennia P166 that runs much faster then our P200! Also, we've been getting a bunch of blue screens (3-4 per session - never on the same programs tho) GPFs and other errors for a while now. Any ideas on what to do for that??
Also, in the past 6-8 months, we have had a video card & onboard sound card that have blown for no apparent reason. Is it possible that something on motherboard is blowing these components?? Thanks for any help you can give!! Let me know if you need more info!
Thanks much!

Thanks Mr. Ed - I'll have to try that! And I hate to say it, but I already did all that stuff underclocked....and it didn't do much to speed it up...thanks anyways!

1. Have you performed a reliable virus scan?
2. Have you much free space on your HD?
3. Add any new components that may be incompatible with your system?
4. Have you checked your Device Manager for conflicts?
5. Dump the HD and rebuild it.
Good luck!

just a thought , check exhaust fan, is air very hot, or not blowing very well? if so check intake vent on case to make sure that they have not sucked in dust or tissue paper and it's cauceing CPU to run hot, I have had this happen with an AMD K6 once when cleared Sytem speeded up and gained some stablity, (now the Bad side) however it came back 3 months later would not run for more than half hour before locking up. the extra heat on CPU had weekened it and it failed, took mobo with it.

Have you tried renaming the smartdrv.exe to just smartdrv (with no exception)? Do a search for it under start/find/files & folders in C drive.
