A simple question. I have a Mitsubishi floppy drive, I have misplaced the paper work it came with. I need to know where pin 1 is. At this point I don't remember. The drive itself has no markings, & I have forgotten. Outer edge?
Thanks, Gayle

One end of the connector should have a pin missing in it's second column. That end is Pin 1.
Or the notch. When the notch is on the top of the connector when looking at it, Pin 1 is on the right.

Thanks, Bristech, notch on the bottom, so pin 1 is on the left.
I thought that's the way it was but I couldn't remember.
Thanks again,
Gayle

Number 1 pin is on the same side as the power connecter. This hold true on cdrom drives also.

that is not always true not on some of the older stuff /forum/smile.gif
but yes on all the new less than 2 or 3 years old cdrom dvd hard drives etc etc #1 next to power /forum/smile.gif

Scotter's right the #1 pin is not always on the power connector side of the case especially with floppies......

Floppies are one of the oldest components still used in these PCs, yet one of the least standardized. How much could it possibly cost to add the pin number 1 and 40 stamped in that thin metal or at least a permanent marking of some type? It's aggravating!

One other sure way to tell (ok almost sure-fire) is to simply hook the ribbon cable up to the floppy drive and power the puter on.
If the little light that indicates a reading condition stays on and does not go off after the initial boot up, then its on backwards and you will know you need to reverse it /forum/smile.gif
