I've had it two day's /forum/wink.gif

I don't know what a jar file is but I have about 20 of them located within Netscape. Which file is the corrupt one, baffled?

I can e-mail it to you if you like.

From what I can gather, a jar file is a specific compression utility that Netscape is using. If you've got a corrupted jar file, then it's probably a plugin or something. That's just a guess though. I guess netscape makes these compressed files, and uncompresses them as needed. Let me do some more research on that.

P.S. - Just rub it in why don't ya, Susan.
And here I thought I was on the ball with this thing........

JAR (Java ARchive) file contains the image and sound files for a java applet on the web page and is compressed for faster downloading by your browser. Similar to ZIP format.

That's the way this place is /forum/smile.gif /forum/smile.gif

So what do you think of 4.7, MrEd?

I was having some stability problems with earlier versions, but they seem to have lessened for me now with the new.

I recommend it.

I have no idea what one is corrupt Susan,I am trying once again to download it ,if it comes up with the corrupt notice I shall try to find out which one it is and let you know.It has taken 6 hours so far to download 89%,19 restarts using getright.I have 4.6 and it works fine but my motto is upgrade, upgrade and continue to upgrade, silly me.lol
Thanks a load for the replies sorry for using your post MrEd but it just seemed related.

Susan, MrEd,

What are the REAL benefits you have found? Is the speed better? More security options?

I'm not interested in the WinAmp (got it), or Shopping, Radio or AIM.

Baffled, that's an awful lot of restarts on the downloads. That may be where it got corrupt. If you're having that many restarts, perhaps a late night/early a.m. download would be better when thruput is better...

I've been banging the hell out of Netscape tonight, and not one crash!!! (yet)
I've also got that 128bit encryption "thingy". That's supposed to help with security a little. Other than that, there's really nothing different that I've noticed. Did you know you can make a link to a site instead of bookmarking it. Just go to the site, and click on that little icon next to "Location" at top of browser, and drag it down to the personal toolbar. Pretty neat.

socalgal - I only downloaded it for increased stability, which is what I got. I'm not seeing any increase in speed and all in all it's the same browser.

baffled - My first download of it got to 94% and went no further. I had to restart the process /forum/frown.gif Like socalgal says, try downloading it early am hours.

Ya want to put that netscape thing to the test? Go to www.browsertune.com (http://www.browsertune.com)
and see how tough it is. If it passes that
you've really got something good. Happy testing. /forum/smile.gif

I got the whole thing error free on my first attempt using getright (restarted 8 times) a few days ago. I like it, but one complaint is the Shop Netscape icon in the toolbar. AOL effect?
Nice package though!

Well I seem to have been lucky. As soon as I got the email informing me of availability I was on that download side before my cat could catch the mouse (joke).

Downloaded at 5kb/sec on my 56k modem and have been using it since Saturday.
Not much different to 4.6, all I see is a Shopping button. Back to IE5 for now as it still doesn't load some sites, keeping it for Nottingham's meteosat server-push animations.
