When I put a previously written CDR in the writer, and the other CDROM as well, and open either explorer or my computer, 95% of the time it locs up windows.

After a long delay after alt+crtl+dlt when it says xyz (my computer or explorer) is not responding, it kicks to the "do you want to restore your desktop?", and half the time freezes after I say yes.

If I put a "non burned" CD in either drive, nothing amiss happens. Everything worked fine until today.

I ran scandisk, defrag and virus scan, no reported major problem.

Also, if I can access exploer/my computer, when I access the writer program to write additional stuff on the CDR, it freezes when I import multisession, (the previously written sessions).

Any ideas?

It might not be locking up Windows. Wait 5 seconds and it might just be a long pause. I have that problem when I put a CD in my Acer 4x4x32. Whatever I do in Windows 98 after about 5 minutes I get a 5 second pause and a sound like it is accessing the CD after that everything is fine. This only happens when the CD is in the drive. I'm also using the necessary Direct CD in the background so that might have something to do with it. I think every CDRW drive does this if the CD is left in the drive.
