I realize there are some perfomance differences but I noticed something odd the other day when setting up an ECS RS482-M Which has an ATI chipset. I threw in a drive from an A7N8X-E Deluxe with XP installed on it, started it up and was quite surprised to find that Windows did not balk at the chipset difference. It called for the driver disc and automatically set everything up without a hiccup. I expected, at the very least, that a repair install would be necessary.

mmmm..... That is totally weird so go figure - Count yerself lucky - I tried to swap an XP drive from from one VIA chipset board to another newer VIA mobo and had to do the repair install anyway just last weekend.

Personally I think VIA is the most finicky (Not to say bad) of all the chipset makers, once set up they are real performers. I have been pleasantly suprised with Nvidia , Uli, and Sis. No experience with ATI's stuff. ATI is a modern "Clean Sheet design" though and I bet they worked hard on compatibility.

Good to hear!
