I just want to know how to upgrade my bios. I have this flashing utility that came with the mobo and a rom file. I just want to know where I go from here. I've tried running the flashing utility in windows but all I get it a opening and closing DOS screen. And in DOS it doesnt do anything.

Ahhh... Don't run a bios flasher in Windows!!! I have done that before, and it corrupt the EEPROM and left the motherboard useless /forum/frown.gif . A bios flasher needs direct acess to the RAM so NO mem managers can be present. Before you even attempt to flash a bios you have to ask yourself why you are doing so. The only reason you need to flash is if you have a brand new device that isn't currently supported. Otherwise there is no point in doing so!!!
If you really must flash then follow these guidelines....
Following are some very critical notes regarding BIOS updating procedure. If you have not flashed a BIOS before, this is what you must read first before you start any BIOS updating.
1. Boot up with a clean OS. You can use one of the following methods:
If you boot up with DOS, press <F5> at the time that screen says "Verifying DMI information"
If you use Windows 98 or Windows 95, press <SHIFT><F5> at the time that screen says "Verifying DMI Information"
Format a bootable floppy disk, and remove both <CONFIG.SYS> and <AUTOEXEC.BAT> files on the disk. Then copy the BIOS file and the Award flashing utility to this disk.
Now, use this floppy disk to boot up again.
NOTE: The purpose of the above procedure is to make sure that there is absolutely no memory management utility, like <EMM386.EXE>, resides in the system memory after boot up. This type of the utility will affect the BIOS flashing procedure, and will cause the mainboard to STOP functioning.
2. At the DOS PROMPT, type in AWDFLASH <BIOS file name>. It is highly recommended to save the current BIOS file, in case you want to abort the BIOS updating and return to the current version. (CHANGE THESE DETAILS TO YOUR BIOS FLASHER)
3. Now, answer with "YES" to update the BIOS.
4. After the completion, RESET the system, go to BIOS setup and make desirable changes.
STOP!!!!
If you are not confident with the above procedures, do not go any further. Contact your mainboard or system RESELLER for assistance.
I hope this helps emcron
