What ping to get with a 56k?

I just wanna know what ping do you get with a 56k modem on a ISP fast server?

What ping do you get here at SysOpt? I get a round trip average of 183ms. A minimum 183ms and max of 184ms. Send/receive 4 packets. 56K 3Com modem. East Coast. Right now.

yeah I used to have problems with ping playing video games. So I read around and experimented with some settings and these specifics gives me a ping of 187-203ms(sometimes drops to 171 for a couple of seconds) on my lucent winmodem. I use netzero, earthlink was good too(netzero getting some busy signals now). I connect at 52kbps and sometimes 53.3kbps. If you've got a winmodem
go to modems(properties, connection tab) under control panel and set maximum speed(baud rate) to 9600. i used too think bigger was better and set it at 115000 baud rate but this is no good for ping. Then go to port settings and slide all the settings to the max. Then go to advanced and turn flow control off and error control off since you want the packets to go from A to B as fast as possible. Under extra settings I S37=14. Then go to network in the control panel and click dial up adapter under the advanced tab enable point to point IP, set packet size to automatic(small works well too), record a log select no, and IPX header compression choose yes. Hope this helps your game playing but a lot depends on the ISP all this means nothing if your ISP sucks. good luck

With a Diamond Supraexpress 56internal @ 49333 kpbs, I get an average of 150 to the fastest game server in a typical game, when pinging for response time, and around 190 in game. The lowest ive ever gotten was 120ms. Before when I connected at 40000k, I got about 180, witha around 150 at lowest

Im asking this because I have a cable modem and get a average 150 ping in Half-Life (counter-strike)sometime 300 ping.

I have a 56K Lucent winmodem and use a local ISP. My connection speed is reported as 37333bps, but I get some relatively good pings with it. Just pinged Sysopt and got an average of 155ms.

So, how do you find out what your ping is? Having problems playing the new Quake III 1.08 online. Would like to know if it's my internet connection or something else. ?

I just pinged sysopt and got an avg of 155ms at 46kbps. To ping a server, go to the dos prompt and type ping x where x is the ip or alias of the server you are trying to ping.

In Q3test I think its F1...Thats what it is for me but I dont remember if i set it to that or it was defaulted as that

Using a regular modem 150ms is exelent all the way up to 250ms is average/good....
using cable 150 is Terrible...you should be around 50-80ms
DSL can be as low as 25ms...

Well, after much consternation /forum/wink.gif , I finally pinged SysOpt and got 184msec average through the local high school. Connection reports only 33.6 and downloads only get about 3.5Kbps, but the ping shows a pretty good connection. Weird!
