cd-rom install problem

I was up grading my cd with a Hi-Val 40x. When I boot, the system hangs. The old one works fine so do you think this thing is just defective? I Thought installing a cd-rom was a no brainer!

Only thing I can say is to double check your jumper settings on the CD Drive to make sure you have it in slave or master depending on which you want it to be and make sure the cables are in correctly (Pin1 > Red Strip).

Thanks Susan, I already tried all that and still no go. I guess I'll get to see how good Value America is about sending stuff back!
