Of course this is a bit deceptive, but sometimes... Anyway, your board prolly isn't going bad but the battery for your CMOS might be going bad. You could always locate it and replace it on the board. Should like like a silver quarter or thereabouts. Usually a standard watch battery, BUT... I have seen boards with a round barrel type battery and even some that use a standard AA battery in a battery harness. Even 2 AA batterys on an older computer... But, if you want to try and go fro a new computer, and if your dad doesn't know anything about them... Then this could be a good time to be sneaky and try and weasel yourself a new one. Deceptive, sneaky, and underhanded, but... Of course my advice of underhanded affairs is worth what ya paid for it, but hey, heh... johnpaul 11-09-1999, 08:34 AM On the other hand, matt, here's a neat freeware program called Dimension 4 (http://www.thinkman.com/~thinkman/dimension4/index.htm) that will help your clock keep perfect time. My clock lost a few minutes a week, so I set the program to synch the time each time I boot. I check it about, i don't knoe, i guess whenever i think of it... Anyway, if you want a copy, e-mail me and I'll send it to you. Good Luck In All... Mike P. Alzarius 11-09-1999, 02:08 PM I would have suggested the atomic clock programs but 10 minutes or so a month is way too much for a clock to be off. There is definately a problem somewhere(Maybe battery) that needs to be fixed. At this point, using the atomic clock programs is only a patch. If you keep the computer, replace the battery for the CMOS. My computer was only off 30 seconds since I set the time last year. (I hadn't used any of the programs for a loooong time) If the battery swap doesn't give you better time, then there could be a problem elsewhere. I know that some programs screw the time up. Which ones I couldn't say though. In a worst case scenario there could be a hardware problem. But I'd gather it's just a worn out battery or one with a bad contact. mattheadfat 11-10-1999, 09:20 PM yeah, i thought about the battery, but i thought when that battery dies, you can't boot your computer, i didn't know that battery could slow you clock, my 486 years ago ran for years and the battery never died, i had atomtime, i thought the concept was neat but i would rather have a working clock on my motherboard SysOpt.com
