The CDRom 563-b(2x OEM Drive from Panasonic) is in a 486 system. It is hooked up to a Reveal sound card.I have downloaded the drivers from the Panasonic website. Under dos, when I reboot, the driver is recognized, it says:"one drive ready"etcetc just like all is OK
But NOT...
Once I type dir the meassage CDR101 pops up
I can even type in the cdrom drive letter.
Normally CDR101 is when the drive is dirty or cabl;e kapputt, but the cable is new and the drive works under wiN95!!!
the drive light comes on for like 20 seconds before I can access it...
I can set a jumper on the drive at 0,1,2,3,4 but I think that is not the issue(unless you have more drives)
]Maybe I have forgotten the good old IRQ, DMA days...
Help is apprecioated

Could it be that your 2x cd is starting to die? Most newwer cd games require a 4-6x to work properly. This might be a good time to invest 30 bucks and get a 24x or faster CD that is truely compliant with today's needs

Well, that 563 is the same as the old Creative Labs 2x drive I had. It's also the same or similar drive bundled with the old 3DO Blaster... Anyway, those Creative/Panasonic drives, for some reason, would not work on any other sound cards CDROM adapter. I tried hooking mine up to 3 different sound cards and the cd would not function. It required my Sound Blaster 16... They would work off the main IDE cables though. If possible, try testing it by connecting it to be a slave to one of the main IDE lines. Don't forget to make the harddrive the master...
