Macintosh????

My neighbor has a Mac II Ci whatever that is and the thing will boot but go no farther. Can someone put me on to a Website (BBS) where I can get some info for him. Tried Apple site but it is terrible I cant find anything. When it boots it gets a black and white Icon of a floppy right in the middle of the screen with a ? on it. His brother sold it to him for $300.00. Good brother huh?

Ehm, a Mac ][C is DEFINATELY not worth $300.00. But, They needed floppy disks to boot, they dont have hard drives or anything, except theres a key combination that will kick you out to prompt, Like the little apple Icon, Control...., Cant think of it?, anyone can help me?, Buuut, youll have to get some bootdisks with like Pro-Dos or whatever programs your using. Youll have ALOT of trouble finding old 2C programs, but try www.ebay.com (http://www.ebay.com) searches.

Thanks guys I think the floppy may be the answer. I can hear the HD stuttering when booting. I did notice that the floppy drive does not have a door on it. So must have to have the floppy in all the time.
Thanks also for the BBS info, going over there now. Just got back from the BBS and guess I will have to give him the bad news. (Throw it away)

Actually, from what I've seen and for Zeus only knows what reason, Macs have this godawful feature where there are no eject buttons on the floppy drive but you either have to use a menu option to eject the disk or let a program eject it(if you needed to switch disks)... I can't imagine that someone was paid when they said "Hey! I have a GREAT idea, lets not put an eject button for the floppy drive!" Also, I have a neighbor who had a similar problem. The computer would get to the same stage and sit. The harddrive wasn't spinning so he whacked the computer a bunch of times and the drive finally started to work although now a lot of the text has been replaced with garbage icons.. I have a feeling this is due to the old complaints about old SCSI drives having a short shelf life... Who knows...
