I know someone has posted a similar problem, but I can't find the link. My machine won't shut down, it just seems to keep going on the blue 'Windows is shutting your machine down' screen, and I have to manually shut it off. I've tried messing about with the 'Disable fast shut down' switch to no avail. When the box is ticked I have this problem, when the box is clear the machine shuts down windows, and resets the computer. Any Ideas?

If you hold down the control and alt keys and hit delete it will show you what is not shuting down. Then you will know what is holding up the shut down. That should help a little.

I had the same problem, I formatted. It solved the problem, but later I found a site with some cool links about this issue. www.ehelpfree.com/nathan/#1ma8 (http://www.ehelpfree.com/nathan/#1ma8)
I hope it helps.

If you are using Win98 SE there is a shutdown issue that could be your case... go to Windows Update and download the patch.
