Hello:

I'm stumped. We have a home network (10BaseT) sharing a dsl connection set up as follows:

Server running Wingate: K6-2 350Mhz

Clients: P75@100Mhz; and a P133 running Wingate client.

Now, the P100 is working fine; downloads fast and browses fast (as fast as a P100 will go, I guess.) and file sharing between it and the server is fast too.

The problem is with the P133; it browses the net fast enough, but file transfers are extremely slow (like 15 minutes to transfer a 5MB file from the server) and downloads top out at 6kbps. Even the P100 can download at 30-40kbps.

I've tried removing unnecessary protocols (Netbeui and IPX) to no avail. It is just slow, and I can't use the excuse that it is just a slow computer, because the P100 is outperforming it.

Anyone's two cents worth would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to all...

Hello:

Ok, everything is alright now...my brother was looking at the programs installed on the problem PC, and found ispeed, which was messing it up...funny, because it was the same thing with mine when I first got dsl...

So it was ispeed messing things up, and all is well now, and we can all sleep tonight... /forum/smile.gif

It could be your MTu size (size of transmitted packets) Just look for MTUpatch, and you will find a handy RegKey. If you can't find it. Mail me at sachar@hetnet.nl and say if you got Win98 or 95 and I mail it too ya.
