I have a Abit BE6. Currently I have a Maxtor 10.1gig ata66 drive, which has a fujitsu 4.3 ata33 slaved off it. These are run from the hpt 366 ide connectors. I have the CD rom mastered of the normal ide channels.

I would like to install linux, but it does not recognise the fujitsu from the hpt 366 ide channel. So I have run the fujitus into a normal ide channel and have the cdrom slaved off it. Boots up fine and then get to 'Verifying DMI Pool' and just freezes (cannot even ctrl-alt-del). So I have mastered the fujitsu into its own channel and done the same with the cd rom. Still freezes.

I thought that I was supposed to be able to run 8 hd from this thing. Doesnt look like it at the moment.

Please help.

I have sorted the prblem myself. Basically the way the system recognises the ata66 drive is user scsi like drivers. So I changed the boot sequence in the bios to ext,c,a. This has done the trick. Very simple. Posting this if anyone has a future problem like this.
