I recently put together a computer, however I can not install any operating system including Win 98 SE. I have only the bare components installed.
MSI 6167 motherboard
Athlon 500
Creative Lab TNT2 Ultra
PC 100 eeprom SDRAM
Western Digital 27.3 HDD (ATA 66)
Memorex 40x CDROM
3.5 Floppy

I get error messages when trying to install the OS. For example after WIN 98 completes scandisk and registry scan, it will begin to load and then crash. The error messages include:

Application Error
SUWIN caused an illegal instruction in module SUWIN.EXE at 0003:069E

or

Error loading USER.EXE

or

Invalid TrueType font detected
An application used a Truetype font that caused an error in windows. Quit and restart

or

Application Error
W98setup has caused a General Protection Fault in module USER.EXE at 000C:0AB2

Also, I can not load the patches until Windows is installed. If anyone has the same problem please reply or if you can help, please do!!! Thanks everyone.

Good evening Sir...... /forum/smile.gif

Are you using the Upgrade to 98 after Win95 is installed? If so, start fresh and Start with the Win98 CD. It will ask for your Win95 cd to verify that you actually own Win95. Then back in goes the Win98 CD and you should have zero problems. If this isn't the case...... well I guess I typed this for nothing. /forum/smile.gif

Also is the disk clean?

Yeah, at this point, I'd format c:, and use your bootable disk, start with cd rom support, then badda boom, badda bing! No old files to bugger things up..

Good Luck In All...
