Which Cable modem do u guys use or would recommend. I just moved to a new apartment and the cable company is asking 85 to buy one from them and i think that is a bit high. I have been lookin and i found the motorola Sb5120 for $61. What do u guys think??

It is a matter of the warranty if the Motorola comes with short one, and the Cable ISP one provides warranty as long as you are with them, than you might be better off with the $85.

In addition, if something goes wrong with the Motorola they might J*** around claiming that they are not responsible for what is going on with the connection since you are using you own device.

In other words, call them and find out what is their position on these two issues.

I bought a Toshiba instead of renting a Motorola from my ISP for $5 per month.

That was 3 years ago and I got my $65 worth.

My ISP doesn't charge me anything for the modem use. Or at least it doesn't show on the monthly bill. In fact, all the ISPs i have tried never charged me for modem use.

But they did say I can use any modem I like, but they wont offer any support for the modem.

It has been 2 years now, both the modem at home(1Mbps) and at work(2Mbps) has been fine. Both are from Alcatel.
