So I've installed XP pro on 2 separate machines, one which was upgraded from win2k pro and the other which was a straight install. The image on the left is the straight XP install and the one on the right is the upgrade. Is there a way to get the one from the straight install to be like the one that was upgraded? Thanks.

Please excuse my XP noobiness, I have just recently decided to upgrade my machines from Win2k Pro to XP Pro.

Click the Share This Folder on the Network box.

sounds like the clean install is using simple file sharing, while the upgrade is using the win 2k/xppro sharing.

go to tools-folderoptions-view- scroll to the bottom and check simple file sharing (or uncheck depending on what you want)

Thanks, that's what I was looking for. I looked for that option for like an hour.

that's why I try to avoid upgrades. the upgrade will try to hold onto the legacy settings, instead of using the xp defaults.

Well, I like the way it was done in 2000 as I can set the Permissions. I didn't know, and still don't, know how to do it with the XP's network sharing and security.
