I'm shopping for a new video card after a few years with my ti4200 128mb. I'm looking at an x800 Pro 256mb AGP (~$200) What kind of performance increase can I expect on games such as HL2, F.E.A.R, B&W 2, etc. my pc:
Athlon 3000+ Venice @ 2.27Ghz
1GB (2x512) Mushkin Dual Channel Kit
Gigabyte K8NS Ultra 939 motherboard
450w Power supply

Otherwise, it should be a bit slower than an x800xl.

I upgraded my mobile 2500barton o/c 2400mhz from Geforce 4200 to ati 9800pro and then to x800pro (all agp).... I saw big differences between all the cards. My second computer now runs the 9800pro on a barton 2500 o/c to 2200mhz. All games run extremely well,,,BF2, COD2, Earth 2160,...
I have 1gb Mushkin ram 2-2-2-11 in each machine.
Bonus with the x800pro I can o/c the hell out of it and gain 15fps min during DODSource -- 600/620 (watercooled)

it's a big upgrade going from the ti4200 to an x800 pro. definately recommend it (or the geforce 6800 (vanilla or gt). Personally, I would choose the Geforce over the radeon, but the x800 pro is good too. :t

Yea I do think it's about time for an upgrade.. I've had this video card since I built my original Athlon Tbird long long ago. Just dont have the $$ now to go pci-express, especially since I just had $500 done to fix my car :-( So the consenses is that either the 6800 or the x800 pro would be my best bet? I'm trying to spend under $200 - even used cards on Ebay are hella expensive!

The X800GTO is a better card than the X800Pro.

Thanks knyte, I'm actually going to order that card right now! I'm really looking forward to actually placing CSS online without lag.. frame lag that is because my 5mbps cable is not a problem :)
