I would like to replace my sound card with another sound card I have just bought. It seems my sound card I have in now is a ESS 1869 Sound Vision 32 wave pnp...I would like to replace it with a Xwave 3000.What is the best way to go about replacing the card with out getting any conflicts? Any help would be appreciated ..Thanks

Before installing the new card, go into Device Manager and remove the entries for your old sound card. Shut down your computer, remove your old sound card, and install the new one. Turn your computer back on, and Windows should find your new card right away and look for drivers. Make sure you have the drivers for the new sound card available (i.e. CD ROM in drive) so Windows can install them. That's all there is to it.

jmorrell is right on the money - only thing I'd add is if you are on win95, make sure you select the driver from disk manually after the system auto-detects the new board. Win95 will want to install it's generic sound drivers for the board which might wreck it's performance. - Don't forget to move the CD-ROM sound cable to the new board as well as a modem sound cable if you have one.
