To make a long story even longer, I tried to install 98lite and messed up. I now have a PC that won't let me install Windows on either HDD. ... I get error messages when I get part way into the install. ... I can install the same HDD in my other PC, and load Windows with no problems. ... Have I crashed my MoBo? ... I flashed the bios, with no help. ... If anyone has an idea, I'll get up off my knees and try it.

I don't think that you have done any damage to the MB. I suggest that you reformat the HD drive and try to install Win 98. Good luck

Unless you flahed your BIOS with the wrong file or your HD isn't configured correctly on your BIOS, then just format your drive and everything should be fine...

Stating the entire error message w/details would help. SUWIN protection faults can happen when installing Win95 from Win3.1, or could relate to virtual memory settings, too many fonts... you get the idea.
Or, you could go to http://search.microsoft.com/us/default.asp type in SUWIN and uncheck everything except Knowledge Base (KB).

Quick Question, is your processor Oc'd? May need to run it at normal. I had that problem with my bro's computer.

It might be your MoBo. I had an Asus P5A that wasn't letting me install Win98. Tried changing everything else first, finally swaping the board did the trick (I had just bought it)

SOCALGAL... Forget the SUWIN errors for now. I don't get that far now. Now I get - "Setup could not decompress this Setup (.CAB) file and cannot continue." - This happens while I'm still in the boot disk program. ... I went to the link you gave me. Lots there. I'm hoping someone has a shortcut. ..... On the suggestions from others... I think I'll try changing out the CPU, just in case (no it's not ovrclkd.)

Please tell me if this is an AMD K6-2 based system. If it is then I bet it is running at 350mhz or higher - if this is the case, try clocking it down below 350mhz and reinstalling Win98..please let me know if this works.

Gotter fixed ... Izzy and Cmonster were on the right track. I'm running an AMD k6 266, and the fan may have been rubbing on a wire, causing it to overheat. I put in another, and everything is OK now. Apparently, it was breaking down while I was trying to install Windows. I don't know if the old one is cooked. May have to chunk it. Some lessons come hard. I've been on this 2 days. .... Anyway, thanks everybody. Your reward is waiting at: http://nexad.com/wholesale.html & http://nexad.com/freestuff.html
