1 to 1 modem connects only at 28.8 ?

Me and my freind both have USR 56k modems.
I connect to my ISP at 44,000 he connects at about 42,000bps

We play unreal on a 1-1 modem connection.

I set up Dial up server in win 98 to allow caller access and he sets up a new connection to my number in dial up networking.

We've tried the over way around but we can only get 28,800 bps.

Any ideas appreiciated.

Sorry. You are maxed out. 56K V90 modums only support speeds like 44,000 and 42,000bps in one direction. This allows you to download from the internet at these speeds but the max that you ever send anything to your isp is 28800. When you hook up like you are doing with two 56k modums, the absolute max you can do is 28800.

To add to what toms111 said, ISPs have special modems that allow the users to connect at speeds up to 56k.

I thought the max speed otherwise was 33.6? I might be wrong, but that's what I thought it was.
