Can someone please explains this to me? If a family members car is insured and I take it(w/ their permission) to lets say..buy groceris...and if I get in an accident....does insurance play any part in this accident? I mean.. Im using the car but Im not the owner of the car. Someone told me that insurance only works for the owner...I thought your getting CAR insurance..for the car...

PLEASE only reply if you know about this for sure and you have been driving w/ insurane for a while..

Both the car & driver needs to be insured.

If you borrowed an uninsured car, but you have insurance yourself! when you park the car it becomes uninsured - a criminal offence.

If you are not insured at all, but the car is insured by the owner - you are driving without insurance - a criminal offence.

If both you and the borrowed car are insured, you are only covered for third-party damage should you get involved in an accident of your own making - i.e. others' property will be repaired by the insurer, but the car you were driving will not be.

I had similar questions a few weeks back and went to the local Traffic Police to ask. :t

BTW: This is valid for Britain - don't know where you hail from. ;)

I have uninsured motorist so I think that covers me no matter what. Not too sure on that though. I know I am covered to drive anybody's car.

JM, lend me yer wheels OK? :D

Its a proven fact that Yankees are freekin useless drivers :tain't that the truth, Ruth! Every week outside RAF Lakenheath some new arrival USAF hot shot cripples himself in a head on car crash with a local, because they refuse to drive on the left.

The wrecks are displayed just inside the gates as a warning to others.

Yeesh, you'd think they'd learn.

Well, since yas always put the steering wheel on the wrong side of the car I'd call it a Brit engineering problem vs a Yank driving problem. If yad just put the steering wheel in proper, this stuff could be avoided.

Buncha backwards turkeys.:(
