Weird boot errors?

When I boot my machine from cold I usually get to the ppint just before the windows title screen and i get a message saying 'EMM386 has detected an error and has halted the system' or I get onto the win98 screen and it locks up. But when I reboot, all is well? Any ideas?

What is in your config.sys and auto.exec files?

Go to Start/Run
type: msconfig
Uncheck any lines (if any) in these two files to prevent them from loading. See what happens...

There may be a line(s) specific to the VIA chipset that may be needed. I don't know.

When's the last time you updated your anti-virus definitions and scanned your system?

Thanks for the replies, but I've fixed it now, I set the CAS to 3, rather than 2.
