Mozzie teenagers

A Welsh invention which claims to repel rowdy teenage ne'er-do-wells while leaving lawabiding fortysomethings and septuagenarian war heroes to go about their business unmolested has been creating a bit of a stir in the UK and international press this week.

Howard Stapleton's "Mosquito" emits an ultrasonic sound which can be heard by most kids and teenagers but is inaudible to the majority of adults over 30 due to the inevitable deterioration of hearing with age.

Field tests at a grocery store in Barry, South Wales, and a shop in Stapleton's home town of Merthyr Tydfil have proved successful, with rowdy yobs driven from the premises.

The future looks bright for the Mosquito, with its inventor admitting to Reuters: "All I'm getting is pats on the back." And no wonder.

Like 30 years ago the company I werkd for was put to clearing a demonstration bout a nudie show in an historical building in Hollywood.

We constructed a couple of kilowatt ultra hi frequency playback systems for the street... werkd a wonder... coulda sold asprin for $10 ea :D

:D :D :D Eek...the image is to real...so that's just above highest pitch for your hearing test. Think I found that range with the Korg synth a time or 2 playing with the frequency/modulation etc settings.

Unfortunatley I've got good hearing still (29), and can still hear the whine of a TV tube and the squeaks of the local bats when they fly about the supermarket carpark under the bright lights at night catching moths and bugs drawn to the light.
I much prefer what they've trialed in train stations to drive away young hoodlums, playing classical music like bach and beethoven. Works a treat, the level of grafitti and vandalism supposedly dropped right down as the filthy little hood-monkeys and street-rats didn't want to be seen where Vivaldi's Four Seasons was being played :)

Hehehehhh... I'm 52 and ok for a decade or so as a stage monitor engineer (you heard of us)... still detect 16k though... long ago I used ta hear the ultrasonic alarms (~22k) in the stores... no more... :(
