If you ever buy a new home...Pay someone to check the sewer system.
Had the pipes opened with hydrojet 3 months back 2 weeks later had them do it again...covered, but indicated there were broken tiles/clay pipes out by the street and could do no more, but would dig it up and replace 12 ft. of pipe for $3500.00.
We'll look around.
4 wks ago had the system rodded out with a root cutter and they too found broken tiles, but would replace 10 ft. of pipe closer in for $1600.00 and was 80% sure that would solve the problem, but there may be more broken tiles. They dug up the 10 ft. and replaced it with PVC and large rubber sleeves on each end. 1 wk latter system backs up and they come back...covered to rerod to the street and main in the center of the blasted street 10 to 12 ft. down under the concrete. The city storm sewer sits on top of our sanitary sewer. The camera indicates more broken tiles from sidewalk to the street and possibly to the main.
There is no way in hades that the previous lieing blastard could not have known about it and the reason he had not been living there for 6 or more months.
Where there's a will there's a way to make him pay.
This is only 1 issue
Now the good news...Honey Dear was looking for livingroom furniture and a friend posted pictures at her office for sale...bottom line she has given us Marshall Fields mint condition white couch, love seat, chair/ottoman, and very nice coffee table free...I had to take my shoes off when I did their painting.
Last night Honey comes home with 3 heavy Stiffle lamps from the buildings we maintain in the garbage. Older woman heavy drinker is moving to assisted living and 3 nieces are throwing this stuff away. God only knows what else they'll depart with, but we'll be looking.
Funny how things work...I was fuming over the sewer and the furniture comes within a couple of days. I was ready to give Honey a labotomy for sucking me into this ball and chain house from fill in the blank.
Which is why I have no time to anything more than poke around sysopt, but now things are easing down. Still haven't gotten diggy cam but soon and I'll have some pics :t

Look at it this way, you've got a freshly dug hole, if 'honey' has anymore bright ideas. :D
Good to see your surviving the ordeal, and 1 day you'll laugh about these trials and tribulations.

I'll keep that in mind...with 3 brothers also in trades we do share war stories, some more painful than others.
I thought a did permanent damage to my shoulder several months back, but have recovered...so I may tackle the roof...wood shingles under 2 asphalt, so it'll need plywood deck over slats. This ranks high on my lest favorites...thankyou Honey
JM...need to be licenced or I would...by the way $3500.00 from sidewalk to curb is cheap around here. I will say the guy on the backhoe was exacting...that would take a little practice...might do a JM and take out Honey's van...tempting
genesound...thanks, Ill need it
Here's 1 for ya...Our previous owner gay manic we here and boy friend remodeled kitchen. On the wall (mismatched pegboard) behind the frig/stove wall is a galley way and closet and the basement stairs. For the stove exhaust fan he attached that dryer vent flexible aluminum hose stuff, but apparently he didn't want it showing outside of the pegboard wall, so he flattened it and screwed the pegboard over it. After removing pegboard we find it ends (aluminum hose stuff)
inbetween kitchen ceiling/2nd floor and 2 floor joices...most effective!
OK enough for now

I hate that license/qualified stuff. If its my house why can't I do whatever the hell I want with it?
If I find a leak in my roof I'm legally obligated to hire a plumber to squirt a bit of roof and gutter sillicone on it. If I do it myself and get caught I have to pay a multi hundred dollar fine!
Its bloody crazy.

In court ................. So Mr Zibby ....... Is it correct that on yadda day on yadda month in yadda year ...... you did knowingly climb on to your own roof (Shock sound from the public gallery) .......... Brandishing a tube of ......& I Quote "Acme Fix O' Roof" ......... & Squirt the aformentioned "Goop" over a section of leaky tile...... With out wit or hinderance & without any thought of the consiquenses to the poor defenceless Guttering? ......... From the Public gallery (Wooooooahhhhhhhh Hang him, hang him)

So? Its his house. He should be alowed to do whatever he wants to it so long as it doesn't affect his neighbours.

And what if the person you bought your house did crapty work and intentionally hide it. We have disclosure laws here, which I approve of, protecting the home buyer or so you hope, but it has to be proven.
Everything I see here reflects this guys ineptitude

Then I'd say it was my fault for not engaging the services of a building inspector or similar prior to making the purchase. There are many people that provide this service and they will be able to sniff out any dodgy work in a split second.
Let the buyer beware.

3500 for 12 ft? Man you got **** raped. Hope the dig was through iron ore.
As far a hydrojet. Dude, that stuff is crappy if you have a broken sewer pipe, a roto-rooter is the best way to go, the blades will cut and tear out any roots that are on the line.
Hope everything turns out ok. BTW where are you at anyways? lol.

North of Chicago...actually it $1600.00 plus 50 permit for 10 ft in different location, we passed on the through the sidewalk to curb $3500.00, which is now sounding cheap.
We had both hydrojet and roto-rooting, but should have had it done in reverse order...good sales pitch I guess

The disclosure law was adopted for just that and we had an inspector.
The only reason I did not go through this house with a fine tooth comb, was that Honey assured me that she wouldn't pursue it, and then I agreed to go with her to view it and at that time pointed out a number of issues.
What I needed was an inspector to point out how impetuous Honey can be

Hydrojet just loosesn up the rootsm so it could of made it easier to roto-root. I've been a plumber for over 15 yrs, since I was a lad next to my pop's underneat a kitchen sink helping him out in stopping a leak :D

So, gjimene2, what would you say is a reasonable price to pay to run PVC under sidewalk across easement and under City storm sewer (approx 6 ft. down, and an additional price for running pipe to City main in center of street (approx. 12 ft down)
We did have a clean-out pipe installed near the sidewalk and I may try a foam root killer. And I'm playing with the idea of pouring some liquid down the clean-out which will settle at least at the base of the pipes, fill in cracks and solidify.
Wishful thinking I suppose.
BTW...do you know the name of $20 ish spray tip (not the $800 rotorary tip) to use on pressure washer hose (without the gun attached), that I can feed down the line

We only have to pay to the edge of our land ....... After that the relevent company picks up the tab.
Jetting out pipes etc etc is a balls of an idea ........ The most effecient way is to use a shovel ;)
can ya not run ya own pipe ....... Like 3' down then whizz down to almost Australian depths for the last few feet ........ (Cheapskate Stylee) :D
Anyways I thought you just dug two holes these days & sent a Hydraulic Mole between em ................. Umm might not work for poop pipe that ...... FInkin bout it :t
