Yeah, I just got a cd burner. The really annoying thing is that I was going to back that stuff up to a zip disk THAT NIGHT. frustrating.

Seagate does not do data recovry. At least, that's what they say on thier page. They have some links to other businesses that perform data recovery, but they start at 200 to look at a drive.

There is software that can recover. I do not recomend PowerQuest's Lost & Found. You could try: http://www.ontrack.com/

Good luck.

I have a hard drive that had a head crash while it was running, it was my fault. I have two questions:
1) I HAVE to get some files off of this drive, but it doesn't even spin properly anymore. Has anyone ever dealt with a data recovery business in this situation? Or know of a way to get it off of there?
2) It's a seagate drive, still under warranty. What are my chances of getting them to fix it even though it was my fault? I've already sent the drive back once to them because of some bad sectors.

Seagate is very reputable and will honor their agreement under warrenty - but if you read the fine print - it probably says that they will happily replace the defective equipment, but have no legal responsibility for the data loss which they don't cover under warrenty. I believe they have a data recovery department that might be able to assist - at a price. Contact them expecting that, and see what it might cost you. - then go buy a tape back-up or a CD burner for your system so you won't be "here" again /forum/wink.gif
