Do R/W discs breakdown easier than R's ?
I got all keen & wrote loads of data to bout 20 dvdr/w's. And about 18months later ...... Wow I'm having issues getting my data back
Should I just burn once & repent @ leisure ...... Or am I doing summink wrong ?

The lifespan is shorter for RW (phasechange) media, but it's still longer than 18 months:

The phase-change erasable formats (DVD-RAM, DVD-RW, and DVD+RW) have an expected lifetime of 25 to 100 years.
In all cases, longevity can be reduced by poor quality. Poor quality pressed DVDs may deteriorate within a few years, and cheap recordable DVDs may produce errors when recording or may become unreadable after a while.
it could just be cheapo media or you burned at too high a speed.

I had so many problems with DVD R-W for data storage and back ups that I gave up. Even using the recommended Memorex disks in my Memorex DVD R-W, POS would give me read errors sometimes later, or want to format the disk??? Now I only go with write once disks. Price is low enough and I haven't had a headache in months.
